Elevation - 1122 m volcano is located in the region of Los Lagos, 10 km north-east of the village of Chaiten volcano, and the Corcovado, 15 km to the west of the volcano Michinmauida. Caldera is about 3 km in diameter, at the bottom it has several crater lakes.
The volcano has not been active for years 9400-9500 until May 2, 2008 not to launch a major eruption, the eruption is about 30 km in altitude. May 6 lava reached the village, 50 km radius were evacuated the whole population. June 22, 2008 again increased activity of the volcano and ash emissions occur periodically to the present. The eruption also caused the change the channel of several rivers, exposing Chaiten town also the threat of flooding. There are plans to transfer the settlement to another place and turn it into a tourist zone.
